A note from Janna — and why Used To Be Yours exists
Hi, I'm Janna — the owner of Used To Be Yours. For more than a decade, this little boutique on Center Street has been my way of proving something I believe deeply: great style shouldn't cost a fortune, and it shouldn't cost the planet either.
I opened Used To Be Yours because I couldn't stop thinking about where our clothes actually end up. Once I learned how much perfectly good clothing gets thrown out every year — enough that the piles are literally visible from space in places like Chile's Atacama Desert — I couldn't unsee it. So much of it is barely worn. I wanted to build a place right here in Douglas where quality clothing gets a second life instead of a landfill, and where my neighbors could earn a little something from the pieces sitting unused in their closets.
What started as that one idea has turned into something I'm endlessly proud of — a boutique that's worked with over a thousand consignors and become a little community of its own.

Fashion is one of the most wasteful industries on earth. Every year, billions of pounds of clothing end up in landfills — much of it hardly worn. I think there's a better way. For us, that's not a marketing line — it's the whole reason we're here.
This is a small-town boutique, and I like it that way. My consignors are my neighbors, and a lot of my shoppers have become friends. I personally go through the pieces that come through our doors — that part I don't hand off to anyone. I look for quality brands, current styles, and items in excellent condition, because I want every rack in here to feel worth digging through.
